Sadly, as I know, people would sooner accept the blame than to risk their promotion. I pointed out to the government what they already knew: they had encouraged tax evasion! My colleagues decided to accept responsibility, despite proof that they were not to blame. No one thanked me. Well one did. Out of 700.
It is therefore no coincidence that the Irish government pact with banks, to fuel their deposits with evaded taxes, merely worsened the property and bank crash!
So I had to retire early, crushed. I laugh at them now, but I am still bitter at their stupidity. They helped to destroy themselves, by ignoring breaches of the law.
